Camp Cedar Crest - A Love Story

Eight years ago, July 31, 2006, at Foursquare's Camp Cedar Crest, I sang a song with a girl I'd never met. Ten months later I married that girl.

I was 22 years old and had a megaphone strapped to my shoulder. I jumped up on one of the concrete ledges outside Camp Registration and started rapping the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song. Across the camp front entry area I heard a cute voice join in with me, but couldn't see who it was. Come to find out years later, it was the girl that would become my wife. It was our first time singing together. #pureromance

The next day I noticed a cute cabin leader at the morning prayer meeting and asked if I could join her prayer circle.

As the ever-important camp "games guy" in charge of all things awesome, I needed help filling water balloons and just happened to accidentally recruit that cute cabin leader I had prayed with.

The rest of the week was a blur of sandals being thrown at each other, water balloons being thrown at each other, and phone numbers being thrown at each other.

The seeds of true love.

The rest is history. I proposed 7 months after meeting Sam and we got married 3 months after that.

Thanks Camp Cedar Crest for helping me find my wife.

Campers: don't try this at home... or, I mean, camp. Camp is not about romance, it's about God... unless you're a cabin leader or games leader.

Thank you Foursquare for continuing to run a camp that teaches hundres of students every year that they are handmade by God, with a purpose, and are loved and forgiven.

Thanks to my bride for loving me well.
